Setting user preferences
You must be in Keyboard mode to enter Set-Up—no changes can be made in Mouse mode. All choices are saved internally and can be set at the same time.
Adjusting sound volumeWhen you click a button, Lomak can make a "click" as well as light up the button. You can turn off the sound, or adjust it from a faint click to a tone.

- Go to the Control bar at the bottom of the Lomak keyboard and click the Set-Up key. The key lights up to indicate that you are in Set-up mode.

- To change the volume, click a different Option key. ‘1’ is the quietest and ‘5’ is the loudest. To turn off the sound completely, choose ‘0’. You can hear the choices available as you move from ‘0’ through ‘5’.
- Click the Rest key to confirm your setting and exit Set-up.
You can adjust the brightness of the buttons of the Lomak keyboard to suit the environment you are working in.

- Click the Rest key to confirm your setting and exit Set-up mode.
You can adjust the sensitivity of the Lomak keyboard to respond faster or slower. The most sensitive setting is ‘0’ and may cause unwanted characters to be selected.

You can set the Lomak keyboard for "plug & play" operation for many languages. As each language has its associated keyboard, the Lomak's internal program needs to be set to match the computer's setting so that the characters generated in the computer agree with the labels on the Lomak keys.
If you need to find out which keyboard your computer is set for, ask your system administrator. Instructions for selecting a keyboard in your computer are provided at the end of this User Guide—see Selecting a keyboard in your computer at the end of the Contents page.
| Step 1 | Step 2 | Step 3 | Step 4 |
- To change the key layout, click the Set-Up key. The key lights up to indicate that you are in Set-up mode.
- Pause the pointer for one second over the Layout set-up key which is towards the right-hand end of the Control bar. The key will illuminate and the current layout setting code will be shown on the Option keys in the centre of the Control bar.
- To change the layout, click the
Option key(s) that correspond to the desired
layout, as follows.
- Firmware revisions from v4.3 onwards contain many layouts and permit the selection of multiple Option keys, as listed in Layout Table 1. If you click the wrong keys, don't worry. To clear all the option keys and start over again, click the Delete key.
- Firmware revisions up to v4.2 contain up to six layouts and permit only one key to be selected, as listed in Layout Table 2.
- Click the Rest key to confirm your setting and exit Set-up mode. If your layout selection is valid, only the central Confirm cluster will illuminate. Changes are instantaneous and take effect immediately. If your layout selection is not valid, the two outer Confirm clusters will light up (indicating an error) and your current layout will remain unchanged.
Lomak keyboards can run Notesai layouts if you attach a Notesai overlay to the keyboard surface.
Notesai keyboards cannot run Lomak layouts because every second key in the central circle is hidden.
The Quick Change keys each access a memory of a layout setting code, and are designed for quickly changing the keyboard between two layout choices without the need for entering setup mode each time you want to change the layout.
You set these memories in a similar manner to setting the current layout as described in the section above.
| Step 1 | Step 2 | Step 3 | Step 4 |
- Click the Set-Up key. The key lights up to indicate that you are in Set-up mode.
- Pause the pointer for one second over the Layout A key. The key will illuminate and its memorised layout code will be shown on the Option keys in the centre of the Control bar. If the Option keys are blank at this stage, then the memory has not been set and the respective key will be unresponsive during normal keyboard operation.
- To set or change the memory, click the Option key(s) that correspond to the layout you wish to associate with this memory, from the choices listed in Layout Table 1. If you click the wrong keys, don't worry. To clear all the option keys and start over again, click the Delete key.
- Click the Rest key to confirm your setting and exit Set-up mode. If your layout selection is valid, only the central Confirm cluster will illuminate. If your layout code is not valid, the two outer Confirm clusters will light up (indicating an error) and the memory will remain unchanged.
Repeat the procedure for the Layout B key, and store the layout code for your second choice. If you like, you can set both memories one after the other before exiting Set-up mode.
To remove the Quick Change facility, clear both memories with the Delete key, and exit Set-up mode in the normal manner via the Rest key. The Layout A and B keys will no longer respond to the pointer during normal keyboard operation.

Keys operate as a keyboard keypad for Home, End, PgUp, PgDn. In this choice the arrow keys are the same as the arrow keys on the right circle, except that they do not repeat if you pause on them. |
You can adjust the sensitivity of the word prediction keys so that they do not activate with brief touches as the laser crosses the blue region to and from the central Confirm. This allows you to look up to the PC screen to check the word choices without activating the word prediction keys at unexpected times.

You can adjust the sensitivity of the four mouse direction keys (in Mouse mode) so that they do not activate with brief touches as the laser crosses the blue region. This allows you to look up to the PC screen without setting the mouse in motion by mistake.
| Step 1 | Step 2 | Step 3 | Step 4 |
- To change the dwell time of the mouse direction keys, click the Set-Up key. The key lights up to indicate that you are in Set-up mode.

In Lomak keyboards, the mouse cursor can be made to move diagonally if you touch a different mouse direction key after the mouse has started moving. This action is optional, and can be switched off so that the mouse will only move horizontally and vertically. Therefore, if you are making unwanted direction changes as you look up to the PC screen, set this switch to "off".
| Step 1 | Step 2 | Step 3 | Step 4 |
- To change the mouse diagonal switch, click the Set-Up key. The key lights up to indicate that you are in Set-up mode.
- Click the Left Alt key. The key illuminates and the current setting of the switch will be shown on the Option keys in the centre of the Control bar. The default setting is 1.
- Click Option key ‘0’ for "off" and ‘1’ for "on".
- Click the Rest key to confirm your setting and exit Set-up mode.
In Notesai keyboards, the mouse cursor will move in the primary directions only, and the setting of the mouse diagonal switch is ignored.
