Using the Win App and Start keys
This page describes the special action of the Win App and Start buttons for both Mac and Windows computers.
The Win App and Start keysThe Win App key is in the left-hand portion of the Control bar, and the Start key is in the right-hand portion.
Note that these keys may have different labels in keyboards manufactured for international markets, such as the ones for French keyboards shown above.
With Macintosh computers and your Lomak or Notesai set to the Mac Layout, the Win App and Start keys act as the Left and Right Command keys, respectively. |
|
| These keys are marked with an Apple logo or the 4-leafed symbol on standard Mac keyboards, and they modify the action of an associated alphanumeric key just like Ctrl and Shift. | |
| The Alt and AltGr keys act as Macintosh Left and Right Option keys, respectively. | |
| All these keys (Command, Ctrl, Option) can be activated in mouse and keyboard modes. | |
With Windows systems, the Win App key is used to pop up a context menu in the active window. This menu lists the immediate actions which can be taken, from which you can make your choice.
The Win App button needs to be confirmed in the normal manner, just like any key in the circles.
To close the context menu without selecting a choice, click Esc and confirm.
With Windows computers, clicking on the Start key immediately tells the PC that you have “pressed” this key (without the need for doing a Confirm) and a second activation tells the PC that you have toggled the key ‘’off”. The Start LED will be turned off, but Windows will pop up its Start menu.
If you activate the key two more times, the Start menu will go away. This action occurs in both mouse and keyboard modes.
In keyboard mode, the Start key can be used for shortcuts if followed with a letter and confirmed.
Some useful shortcuts are:
Shortcut |
Action when Confirmed |
| Start-D | Displays the desktop (same effect as Start-M) |
| Start-E | Launches a new Windows Explorer |
| Start-F | Launches a new Find Files window |
| Start-M | Minimises all active windows |
| Start-Shift-M | Restores all previously minimised windows |
| Start-R | Opens the Run dialog box. |
